Eat and mix in rollercoaster markets...
Good comment in the article:
Actively managed mutual funds and ETFs are more often than not just a way for the managers to get rich. Just look at their historical returns v. the market indices.
If you want your money actively managed, then actively manage it. It takes no more work to pick and manage your own stocks or bonds (or PMs or whatever) than it does to figure out which actively managed fund is doing what, and staying on top of it to see that it keeps mirroring what you want it to do. Most of these actively managed funds ride the roller coaster -- hot one year and cold the next. And of course, most people buy in after they've been hot and then bail out when they are cold. So not only are they caught in the short end of the performance, but they are also paying 75 to 200 basis points in fees for the privilege.

Interesting ideas often ignored in the mainstream...
PS: Media Blackout Confirmation:
After months of observations that the mainstream media was ignoring the libertarian standard-bearer, a new study by the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism shows just that: the Texas Congressman, who has consistently polled in the high single digits -- Real Clear Politics's aggregate poll currently has him at 8 percent -- has received the least overall coverage of any candidate. From May 2 to October 9, Paul appeared as the "primary newsmaker in only 2% of all election stories."

Long video with lots of Western game designers speaking about influence from Japan...
Members of the global videogame community have come together in an unprecedented effort to create a special video to show their appreciation for the Japanese game industry and to raise donations for Red Cross relief efforts for the people of Japan.
PS: Don't forget to donate, details are in the video.

You can donate to Japan disaster areas through Amazon.com, via the US iTunes store or directly to the Japanese Red Cross ! (Google checkout).
Please remember: Donations to the Japanese Red Cross are in Japanese Yen (at the moment the rough exchange rate is: 800 JPY = 10 USD).

Translated from a tweet in Japanese:
As I was walking for 4 hours from central Tokyo, I was thinking. The sidewalks were overflowing with people, but everyone was walking stoically, in an orderly manner. The conbini (convenience stores) and other stores were all open for business as if nothing had happened. The internet infrastructure survived all the shaking, and was fully operational. All around, emergency help centers (for people trying to get home) were opened, and the commuter rail lines were soon back in operation and said to run all night. This is a great country. I don't care what our GDP rank is.

Brave New Mass Media World :)
